week 3: Creating an Infographic

Creating an infographic is surprisingly simple. A few clicks here and there, entering some information, and adding a couple images is really all it takes to make something truly amazing. This week, we were assigned with watching a video by Kimberly Jimenez on how to create a simple infographic and then to go ahead and create an infographic of our own. After watching her video, I didn't think it could get any easier. Kimberly outlined step by step on how to choose a template, add in text boxes, move things around, and even make sizing adjustments. Her video made it very simple for new users to understand how each step is completed and after watching the video, I was able to create an infographic of my own on interesting things about me.

This infographic is simple just interesting things about me. I started off by choosing a template and then creating a title for my infographic. Next, I simply highlighted the text boxes and added in the information I wanted to be shared with everyone. I included things like where I grew up, my age, the sports I play, and even where I work and with each box of information, I also included images that represent that set of text. This is a very basic example of an infographic that can be used everyday for multiple occasions and it just goes to show how simple these things really are.

When we really think about it, businesses use infographics for just about everything they do and its true, they really do get your attention. As we learned last week in the article on the different steps to creating an infographic, content with images have about 94% more views than those without. As I was creating this infographic, I thought to myself how boring it would look without the small images in each box. I believe these really help readers and viewers feel more attached or intrigued to view the graphic just because they are able to associate the text with an image in their head and actually follow along with what they are reading and learning.
