Week 6: Updating an Infographic

Image
This week, we were assigned with taking an existing infographic that we've made and trying to update it, simplify it, or recreate it using another tool. I decided to take my first ever infographic and simplify it by putting it into a new tool and having a little less information on it which to say the least did not turn out as bad was I was expecting. As a reference, the picture below is my first ever infographic I created using the Canva software as we were instructed to do in week 1 which outlined some interesting facts about myself.  As I went on to use another program, I decided to use Piktochart to re-create the infographic. The set up was in a way very similar to Canva and had a numerous number of outlines and templates to be used. I picked on the template that was vey similar to the one I used with Canva and adding in all the information was a breeze. The thing I liked most about Piktochart was that it resembled Canva very similarly. There were templates with charts an...

Week 5: Creating an Infographic Through Hubspot

Image
This week we learned how to create an Infographic using Hubspot. Hubspot is a free Infographic design tool that uses powerpoint templates rather than a blank canvas. With Hubspot, templates are already created and all that needs to be done is for you to add in your images and information. Hubspot can be used for a range of different needs. Some of their templates allow users to compare and contrast different items, present statistical data, or even create a story or flowchart. Wether the information is for personal use, or even for business use, Hubspot has it all.   While researching Hubspot, we were assigned with creating a sample infographic of our own. For the sample infographic I created, I decided to do an environmental poster on the effects of plastic which can be seen above. The original template outline the importance of trees and it sparked my interest to do something about plastic. Along with this, I also completed a project for another class about how we should st...

week 4: Exploring Dashboards

Image
This week in our discussion we focused on dashboards and how they play an important role in an effective infographic presentation. A dashboard can be defined as "a visual display of the most important information needed to achieve one or more objectives"(Stephen Few). A well rounded dashboard consist of three major components being strategic, operational, and analytical. In this case, strategic refers to having a quick overview of high level measures of performance like good and bad performance evaluations. Operational in this setting refers to information that is used for monitoring operations such as sales information. Lastly, analytical refers to additional content that is highly interactive such as pictures, graph, or charts.  Source: https://www.datapine.com/dashboard-examples-and-templates/retail In the display above, we are able to see an example of a sales dashboard potentially used in a retail sales setting. The dashboard includes things like graphs, charts, pictur...

week 3: Creating an Infographic

Image
Creating an infographic is surprisingly simple. A few clicks here and there, entering some information, and adding a couple images is really all it takes to make something truly amazing. This week, we were assigned with watching a video by Kimberly Jimenez on how to create a simple infographic and then to go ahead and create an infographic of our own. After watching her video, I didn't think it could get any easier. Kimberly outlined step by step on how to choose a template, add in text boxes, move things around, and even make sizing adjustments. Her video made it very simple for new users to understand how each step is completed and after watching the video, I was able to create an infographic of my own on interesting things about me.  This infographic is simple just interesting things about me. I started off by choosing a template and then creating a title for my infographic. Next, I simply highlighted the text boxes and added in the information I wanted to be shared with everyon...
